Privacy Policy

Home & Robot (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates https://www.homeandrobot.com/ . We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and relevant U.S. state privacy laws.
Who We Are
Home & Robot is a digital magazine focused on home robotics.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly (e.g., when subscribing to our newsletter or contacting us) and automatically through your use of the Site.
Categories of data:
- Contact information (name, email address)
- Technical data (IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited)
- Newsletter preferences and interaction data
Email Newsletter Tracking
When we send you a newsletter digest, we measure how it performs so we can improve what we send:
- Opens. Each digest contains a small (1×1 pixel) image. When your email client loads it, we record that the message was opened and when it was first opened. Open counts are approximate — some mail providers (for example Apple Mail Privacy Protection and image proxies) pre-load images, which can overcount opens, while clients that block images undercount them.
- Clicks. Links to articles in the digest pass through a redirect on our site so we can record which articles you clicked before sending you on to the article. The redirect only ever points to pages on our own site.
- Delivery problems. If a message bounces or is marked as spam, our email provider notifies us and we record that status for the affected send (and stop sending to addresses that hard-bounce or complain).
This tracking applies only to newsletter digests. We do not track opens or clicks in transactional email such as address-verification or account confirmation messages.
This data is linked to your subscriber account. If you delete your account (or request erasure), the associated open and click records are deleted along with it.
Writing to the Editors (Reader Feedback)
Each article offers a "Write to the Editors" form. When you submit it, your message is sent to our editorial team by email — it is not stored in a database on this site and is not published. We receive:
- your message,
- the email address you provide (so we can reply), and
- your name if you choose to give one (optional),
together with which article you were writing about. We use this only to read and, where appropriate, respond to your feedback. Editors may occasionally publish a curated excerpt as editorial content; if we do, we will not publish your email address. Because the feedback exists only as email, it is retained according to our ordinary email retention, not in the site's database.
How We Use Your Information and Lawful Basis
We process your personal data on the following lawful bases:
- Consent — For sending our newsletter and other marketing communications (you may withdraw consent at any time).
- Legitimate interests — To improve our Site and newsletter, analyze usage (including tracking data), respond to inquiries/feedback, and maintain security.
- Legal obligations — Where required by law.
We may use aggregated, anonymized data (with optional AI assistance) for internal insights. No personal data is used to train external AI models.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with trusted service providers (e.g., email platforms, analytics tools) who act on our behalf and are bound by data processing agreements.
International Data Transfers
Your data is processed in the United States. We use appropriate safeguards to protect your information when transferred outside the EU/UK.
Data Retention
We keep your personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described or as required by law. Newsletter subscribers and associated tracking data may be retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Reader feedback follows standard email retention practices.
Your GDPR Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
